Clarkson College works with Arbor Family Counseling to offer student assistance services for a variety of concerns, including but not limited to:
- Low self-esteem
- Drug & alcohol concerns
- ADD & ADHD
- Test anxiety
- Family conflict
- Communication problems
- Eating disorders
- Self-destructive behaviors
A Typical Session
The first counseling session provides an opportunity for the student and the counselor to explore why professional consultation has been sought. The counselor obtains generalized knowledge on various aspects of the student's life that may have impacted the main problem area. At the end of the first session, the counselor will also help the student develop a course of action. If the student and counselor deem it would be beneficial for the student to return for a second session, an appointment may easily be scheduled.
Meeting with a counselor on campus is free of charge with no limitation to the number of consults held. Off-campus appointments at the Arbor Family Counseling facility are also an option and are at no cost to students for the first three consults.
Confidentiality is an important aspect of counseling, providing a safe and trusting environment for the student. Specific emergency situations, however, may require an intervention. Students 19 and older who choose to disclose information may do so by signing a release form.
24-hour availability: Professional counselors are available 24 hours a day to set an appointment at Arbor Family Counseling or inquire about a referral to a variety of professional services; including legal, financial, child care or medical.
Free phone consultations: Whether an on-campus or online student, Arbor Family Counseling can help you immediately with your concerns. This service is especially helpful when a crisis occurs.
Free assessments and short-term counseling: Students are invited to complete a free face-to-face assessment with a counselor at Arbor Family Counseling to help address any personal issue. These assessments can be scheduled at your convenience within 48 hours if necessary.
