Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers class teaches individuals how to provide high quality CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner in a health care team environment.

Courses Available

BLS Initial: The course is led by an AHA BLS instructor and designed for students who are new to health care CPR or non-clinical care providers required to maintain BLS certification with little exposure to CPR in their workday. Students watch demonstration videos and participate in simulated clinical scenarios to reinforce skills proficiency. A written exam is given to all class participants to evaluate your knowledge-base. Initial BLS courses are scheduled for 3.5 hours.

BLS Renewal: This course is led by an AHA BLS instructor and is a condensed format compared to an initial BLS course with a primary focus on skills practice and team development. Students watch demonstration videos and participate in simulated clinical scenarios to reinforce skills proficiency. A written exam is given to all class participants to evaluate your knowledge-base. Renewal BLS courses are scheduled for 2.5 hours.

Heartcode® BLS: Registration for the course is open on a monthly basis with skills sessions completed by appointment. This course is designed in two parts. The first is an online program including course videos, simulations and adaptive learning strategies to accelerate your learning. This portion includes the written exam. Upon completion, you will schedule a BLS Skills Session with an AHA BLS instructor to complete your hands-on training and skills assessment. BLS Skills Sessions are scheduled for 1 hour.
