The following safe practice guidelines and intervention ideas help students find success in their personal and academic pursuits to maintain the well-being of themselves and others. Intervention Ideas

If you see a woman who looks uncomfortable while being surrounded by a group of men, try to direct, delegate or distract to diffuse the situation and keep both yourself and the woman safe.
 

Direct
Ask her, “Hey, I’m a little bit concerned. Do you need a ride?”

Delegate 
Find her friends or ask someone such as a bartender or bouncer to help.

Distract
Say or do something to take the attention away from the woman for a moment. Use the distraction get the individual out of the situation.

What is Sexual Misconduct


Always ask for consent before engaging in sexual activity.
 

Definition of Consent
Consent is defined as verbal permission or agreement for something to take place. Always remember that no means no. If someone is unable to say no, they cannot give consent.

If you see someone being mistreated, try to direct, delegate or distract to diffuse the situation and keep both yourself and the woman safe.
 

Direct
Ask him/her, “Hey, I’m a little bit concerned. Do you need a ride?”

Delegate 
Find his/her friends or ask someone nearby to help.

Distract
Say or do something to take the attention away from the individual for a moment. Use the distraction to get him/her out of the situation.

Maintain drink awareness during social gatherings.
 

Keep your drink with you at all times.

If you have to set it down leave it with a friend. Be sure you ask him/her to watch it in your absence.

Watch your drinks as they are being poured, especially ifyou are attending a private social function.

If your drink tastes funny or something seems off, get a new one.
