How to File Your FAFSA

Step 1: Create a StudentAid.gov account

Whether you’re a student, parent, or borrower, you’ll need to create your own account to apply for, receive, and manage your federal student aid. Start here at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch.

Step 2: Complete your FAFSA

Complete your FAFSA online. Students who applied for aid last year may be able to complete a Renewal FAFSA application online. The federal school code for Clarkson College is 009862.

If you are having problems filling out your FAFSA, check out EducationQuest, a free college planning services or contact the Financial Aid Office at [email protected].

Step 3: Additional Information

You will be notified via your Clarkson College e-mail by your assigned Clarkson College Financial Aid counselor if additional information or documents are needed. Provide the requested information as soon as possible.

All requested documents and information must be received by the Financial Aid Office at Clarkson College prior to review of your eligibility for funds..

FAFSA Submission Summary

After filing your FAFSA, you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary listing all the information you provided in the online application. Your Student Aid Index will be included in the FAFSA Submission Summary. Clarkson College then calculates your estimated Cost of Attendance (COA). Your student aid index is subtracted from your COA to determine your eligibility for need-based aid. Review your SAR for accuracy and make any necessary corrections online. Contact the U.S. Department of Education if you do not receive your FAFSA Submission Summary or if you have questions regarding your FAFSA Submission Summary.

If your family's financial situation changes after you submit your FAFSA, you may request a review of your eligibility by contacting your assigned Financial Aid counselor who will walk you through the process of filing a “special circumstance” review.

Special Circumstances / Professional Judgement

Clarkson College Financial Aid counselors have the ability to use professional judgment to adjust the cost of attendance or financial aid award package to reflect a student’s special or unusual circumstance. Students have the right to request a special circumstance appeal on a case-by-case basis. A special circumstance may consist of an extenuating life event that places additional financial responsibility on the student. Please contact your assigned Clarkson College Financial Aid counselor in order to receive information on what documentation will be needed. And complete any requirements associated with your awards (example master promissory notes, entrance counseling, etc.).
