OneDrive is a part of Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) OneDrive.jpg

The documents you place on your OneDrive are only available to you, unless you decide to share them with others within the College.


What you should know about your OneDrive

  1. This is a cloud storage solution where the data is stored by Microsoft.
  2. One must use caution in the type of data stored in OneDrive as well as with whom the data is shared to make sure information security policies are not violated.
  3. Deleted documents are available for 90 days in the recycle bin and then they are deleted permanently. 
  4. IT cannot recover permanently deleted documents.

Initial Setup

  1. The first time you access OneDrive, the system will need to provision your storage.

Click “Next” to start the provisioning process.

If it doesn't finish right away, check back at the top of the hour to see if the provisioning process has completed.

What is OneDrive and how do I get started? How do I get OneDrive for Business? 

  • Microsoft OneDrive is the cloud based document storage solution for Clarkson College.  It works similar to Drop Box or Google Docs.
  • All active Clarkson College employees and enrolled students have access to OneDrive.

How much disk space do I get on OneDrive?

Everyone receives (1) Terabyte of document storage.


Where is the data stored?

This is a ‘cloud’ storage solution where data is stored off-site in the United States.


Is my data backed up?

No. Deleted files are moved to a Recycle bin and can be retrieved within 90 days.


 

 

Can OneDrive do real-time online collaboration?

Yes, OneDrive can do real-time online collaboration. You have to open the document in Office Web Apps. In the upper right hand corner, you will see when someone is also editing the file. You will see a flag while the other person is typing.


Can I create a new document in the browser?

Yes, you can create a new document by clicking on "new document" in the main area of your document repository. It will automatically use Microsoft Office Web Apps to create the document. You can switch to using your "full" Office application (e.g. Word) by going to the File menu and click on "Open in Word". This will give you the full functionality of your local Office apps.


 

What file types cannot be uploaded to OneDrive for Business?

Notably .exe and .shtm. Visit Microsoft for a complete list.
